DJ Profile: Elrik Merlin

Name: Elrik Merlin, Laird Brideswell, aka Rik

SL Rez Day: 29th March, 2007

Journal: The New Observer - An Englishman’s Peregrinations in Caledon & Environs

Occupation: Streaming Audio Specialist, Broadcaster (1968-present!), Sound Recording Engineer & Producer, Writer/Journalist, Graphicall Designer and Creative Technology Consultant, Philosopher, Pedant &c: aka a “Renaissance Man”.

Music Library: Seriously eclectic, with a significant collection of Renaissance/Early Music, Baroque/Classical, traditional and modern Folk, New Age/Instrumental and some varied Musicks of the neo-Rock persuasion which seldom hammer the ear in these times. In addition, a bizarre collection of Light Music from the 19th and 20th Centuries including Music from British Televisual Broadcasting since the earliest times. Some trance/dance. Currently expanding my Victorian popular music category.

Favourite Books: Works by John Crowley (the Ægypt series for example), Alan Garner (Red Shift, Strandloper, Thursbitch et al) Piers Anthony (Macroscope and the Xanth books) and Russell Hoban (Riddley Walker and beyond).

Favourite Films: Things to Come; The Time Machine (strangely, both versions).

Favourite TV programmes: Television documentaries by producers like Adam Curtis (The Trap).

Favourite Quote (one of): “A man should never be ashamed to own that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying in other words that he is wiser today than he was yesterday.” – Alexander Pope, 1688-1744 C.E.

Notes: In late March, 2007, I was invited to a party at my friend's club in SL... and never looked back. I did my first in-world DJ work there and soon set up my own stream. I am interested in improving the quality of audio on-line in general and in SL in particular, and have been a broadcaster of one sort of another for almost 40 years. I am often to be found in the streets and shops and at the events of Caledon, or floating overhead in some aerial contraption or other. I am now happily established at Brideswell Hall, Rothesay SE, Caledon. Look for the transmitting mast and the enormous airship sitting above the house.
